JVP’s Mandate

There is an enormous amount of financial, institutional and political power upholding the U.S.-Israel alliance. The U.S. government singles out Israel for unconditional military funding, weapons sales and diplomatic impunity. Corporations and private funders from the U.S. pour money into the Israeli apartheid economy. Right-wing forces in both Israel and the U.S. accelerate their supremacist, violent agendas through shared strategy and funding. And the Israeli state and its advocates promote the idea that the current system of oppression of Palestinians is necessary to create safety for Jewish people, turning the history of Jewish persecution into a moral cover for the whole system.

There are many institutions, individuals and organizations upholding the U.S.-Israel alliance. And while Jewish Zionist institutions are not the greatest in number, funding or size, these institutions and the Israeli government purport to speak for all Jews when they defend the Israeli regimes’ war crimes. For that reason, it is our mandate to build, here in the U.S., a mass, grassroots, multigenerational, cross-class, multiracial Jewish movement with enough power to counter the specific role that Jewish Zionist organizations play in upholding the U.S.-Israel alliance.

As the largest progressive Jewish organization in the world committed to Palestinian liberation, we work to answer the call for global solidarity. Rooted in the understanding that systems of oppression are interconnected, we build deep alliances across progressive movements for justice. As we uproot the structures upholding oppression in Palestine, we also contribute to the broader Left by developing the leadership of a mass base of progressive Jews. And we do all of this while complying with U.S. laws and regulations that govern our organization.

We’re fighting for liberation — from the U.S. to Palestine.
