Have you ever read an article on campus issues that got it totally wrong?

Or an op-ed that you disagreed with so fundamentally, you couldn’t believe it was published at all?

Or, have you ever written – or signed – a statement with fellow academics, and wished you could do more to get your analysis into the world?

Come to one of our media workshops!

Register now for our San Francisco Bay Area training,

October 22, 9-6 in the San Francisco Women’s Building

If you’d like to gain a broader audience for your academic and Palestine solidarity work, intervene in public discourse, or learn how to use the media to defend ourselves from increasingly harsh attacks, this workshop is for you.

In this workshop, you will collaborate with fellow scholars to learn:

  • the nuts and bolts of how the media works, and how to influence public discourse
  • how to write, time and pitch op-eds and public statements on Palestine and academic freedom issues
  • how to prep for interviews and handle reporters

Who can register?

Registration is open for all Academic Council members, and academics who are committed to justice in Palestine. We invite all those with no media experience but want to learn, and those with some experience who want to make their statements and activism more effective. Junior faculty and graduate students are encouraged to attend.

Cost:

These workshops are sliding scale, with a minimum donation of $18 and a suggested donation of $36. Larger donations subsidize faculty and graduate students who pay on the lower end of the spectrum.

When and Where:

This workshop will take place on  Sunday, October 22 from 9 am – 6 pm in the SF Bay Area, at the San Francisco Women’s Building.

Childcare:

Childcare will be available at no cost to you. In order to access childcare, you must register by October 6th at the latest.

Travel:

We have a very small amount of travel stipends available, and as you register, you can apply for reimbursement up to $100 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note that there will be a NYC workshop in December.

If you have any questions, please contact Tallie Ben Daniel at tallie@jvp.org.
