JVP reaffirms commitment to a world where all life is precious.
Jewish Voice for Peace reaffirms our commitment to building a world in which all life is precious — Palestinian and Israeli alike — and in which all people can live in safety and freedom. Just as we resolutely believe that the United States government must divest from death, we are clear and consistent in upholding the sanctity of life in all we do. JVP disavows the story recently shared to Instagram by the JVP student chapter at University of Michigan as against our organization’s principles and politics.
JVP is a large and growing membership organization, with over 100 volunteer-run local formations, including our student chapters. If a local chapter says, shares, or does something out of line with JVP’s organizational stances, we reach out to clarify, build alignment, and identify whether there is a path forward together. This process is currently underway with the JVP student chapter at the University of Michigan.
We remain fully focused on ending the Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza and campaign of destruction in Lebanon and across the Middle East, by demanding the U.S. government stop sending weapons and funding to the Israeli military, which has demonstrated an utter disregard for international law, human rights, and the sanctity of life itself.
This is a moment of profound despair and righteous rage. Right now, families are desperately fleeing from bombs dropped by Israel and funded by the US in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria. Millions of people of conscience across the globe have spent the year in protest, attempting to stop the US-Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. As Jews, we refuse to allow a genocide and ethnic cleansing to be carried out in our name. As Americans, we demand an end to the slaughter of families and children with weapons bought by our tax dollars. We stand with the millions across the globe, on streets and college campuses, rising up to stop these atrocities.
