Jewish Voice for Peace hacked by cyber attack in attempt to damage prominent organization leading protests for Palestinian human rights

“This cyber attack is a clear effort to damage our reputation, silence our voice and endanger the larger movement for Palestinian freedom.”

Washington, D.C. (February 27, 2026) — Jewish Voice for Peace announced today that its official Twitter/X account had been hacked in a cyber attack, from February 25-27, 2026. JVP is taking prompt measures to further secure its online presence and has now regained control of its Twitter/X account. The hackers posted messages contradicting the organization’s core values, and tried to solicit crypto funds in a clear attempt at entrapment.

“Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) is committed to advocating for the human rights, freedom and dignity of Palestinians,” said JVP Executive Director Stefanie Fox. “This cyber attack is a deliberate effort to damage our reputation, silence our voice and endanger the larger movement for Palestinian freedom.”

Fox connected the attack to Israeli government repression: “This attack resembles decades of focused cyber sabotage and attacks on Palestinian human rights organizations by the Israeli state, and will not deter us.” Moreover, Fox added, “attacks like this are designed to distract the public from attention on the state of Israel’s war crimes and ongoing genocide of Palestinians.”

JVP Communications Director, Sonya Meyerson-Knox, explained that ongoing efforts to demonize pro-Palestinian rights individuals and groups helped create a climate that actively encourages these types of attacks. “There is a well-funded and persistent campaign of misinformation targeting JVP and the movement for Palestinian human rights, that seems to be in line with the far-right’s strategy aimed at dismantling the Palestinian human rights movement and all progressive movements in the United States — as the Heritage Foundation describes in its Project Esther,” said Meyerson-Knox. “In this climate of hatred and lies, we fear there will be more political attacks online and in real life.”

In response to the incident, JVP is calling on groups across the political spectrum to denounce this cyber attack.

“We ask all organizations to unite against such attacks,” said Fox. “Cyber attacks must not be used to quash dissent and dismantle civil society.”

JVP has warned its supporters to disregard any messages or fundraising solicitations that were temporarily posted during the time the Twitter/X account was compromised. The hackers posted a crypto link that is NOT connected to JVP, in a despicable effort to solicit funds. JVP does not request or accept crypto donations, so any such solicitations should be ignored.

Upon discovering the breach, the organization immediately set up a temporary Twitter/X account for supporters to get accurate information. Upon regaining access to its account, JVP deleted the hacker’s appalling tweets. Screenshots of the hacked account and additional details are available to reporters upon request.

JVP staff are available for comment.
