Media Roundup: Moving the needle in the fight against genocide.
As mass starvation in Gaza worsened by the day, and the Israeli government continued its brutal genocide against everyone living there, U.S. Jews and allies with JVP continued our fight. Our demands on our elected officials remain clear: end U.S. support and funding for Israeli genocide and allow in a full influx of humanitarian aid. As Jews, we will not ignore the obvious parallels between images of starving children in Gaza and what we grew up knowing was done to our own ancestors. This pressure, finally, is moving the needle in Congress — but we have a long way to go, and we will not rest until Palestine is free.

“As we’re entering Tisha B’Av, a day of mourning, it’s impossible not to see how the 1,900 years of mourning for a more perfect world have been replaced by violence and this idea of a nation-state that is constantly at war. To suggest that Jewish safety requires ethnic cleansing and genocide is a betrayal of Jewish history and values.” – Abby Stein, JVP Rabbinical Council

What is Project Esther? Unpacking the effort to curb pro-Palestine activism, Snopes, July 29, 2025.
Project Esther does not actually engage with dismantling true antisemitism…Project Esther focuses only on attacking pro-Palestinian advocacy. The Heritage Foundation’s Project Esther is a radically authoritarian blueprint for the far-right to dismantle the Palestine solidarity movement under the false guise of “fighting antisemitism” — and then use the same dangerous (and currently illegal) tactics on other progressive causes. – Jewish Voice for Peace
Local nonprofit apparently fired longtime employee over Palestine activism, Athens County Independent, August 7, 2025.
“False charges of anti-Semitism are being used to destroy careers and lives. [Accusations of antisemitism are] being used to attack anti-Zionists speaking out for Palestine and everybody else speaking out for Palestinian rights. It’s a way of silencing criticism of Israel…so it’s a huge force of control and repression.” – Heather Cantino, JVP Southeast Ohio

Fasting is an important part of Jewish tradition to commemorate tragedies. In this case, we are using it as a way to embody our solidarity with the people in Gaza and end the suffering there. – Lex Eisenberg, JVP Detroit

What’s happening in Gaza is genocide. We must not be afraid to say it., Sarasota Herald-Tribune, July 23, 2025.
“If we talk about Oct. 7, we must speak about the decades of occupation that preceded it. If we teach about the Holocaust, we must also explain the Nakba and its ongoing consequences. This is not about equivalency. It’s about consistency. Either we believe that mass killing of civilians is wrong, or we don’t. Either we commit to naming genocide wherever it happens, or we abandon the credibility of every genocide memorial we have built.” – Melissa Morsli, JVP Member
