2024 / 5784 Annual Report

Dear friends,

It has been a year of unspeakable loss. Israel, with the full financial, political, and structural backing of the United States, continues to wage a devestating genocide against Palestinians in the name of Jewish safety.

Despair in this moment is real and resonant. The Israeli military’s disregard for human life seems to know no bounds. And through our despair, horror, heartbreak, and grief, JVP members have continued to come together — working to break the bonds between American Judaism and Zionism for good.

For the past year, tens of thousands of Jews and allies have been showing up day after day, clearly saying: “Not In Our Name.” We are cutting through the mainstream narrative, making it clear to millions that not all Jews stand with the Israeli government’s oppression of Palestinians.

Looking towards the year to come, we know that our challenges are only escalating. An incoming far-right administration in the U.S. is poised to amp up repression of our movement, while granting somehow greater leeway to the Israeli government to continue its genocide and regional expansionist aims.

We’ve always been in this for the long haul. Our movement for Palestinian liberation has grown immensely over the past year, in the face of unthinkable horror. Facing down the coming year, we recommit to fighting like hell for the living, doing everything in our power to inaugurate a better and more just future for all.

With gratitude and resolve,

Stefanie Fox

Mobilizations

Since October 2023, we've kept the pressure on Congress and President Biden to stop their unconditional support of the Israeli government. These amounted to the largest demonstrations of Jewish solidarity with Palestine in history.

From the train stations to the bridges to the halls of Congress, these relentless mobilizations — including countless actions of mass civil disobedience — shifted the narrative and culture forever. As they captured headlines around the world, they demonstrated mass American Jewish opposition to Israel’s violence.

Local Organizing
& Student Chapters

Our mass mobilizations were met with massive growth, as JVP's network of members and supporters grew to over 750,000 people. Our largest chapters welcomed in thousands of people looking for ways to take action, and dozens of new local pods sprung up around the country.

Divesting from Israel Bonds

JVP, alongside nine other partner organizations, launched the Break the Bonds campaign in May 2024 to demand that community institutions stop buying Israel Bonds — unrestricted loans to and investments in the Israeli military and government. These bonds are a major way that billions of dollars are sent to the Israeli military and government, from institutions and organizations within our own communities.

Since this campaign launched, JVP chapters and pods have been involved in and leading local Israel Bonds divestment campaigns. From Providence, Rhode Island, to Cuyahoga County, Ohio, to Pennsylvania, JVP chapters are organizing to ensure that their municipal and state governments divest from Israel Bonds and instead invest in local communities.

At the same time, more than 1,000 people have signed onto an individual pledge, vowing to divest from Israel bonds and reinvest in Palestinian freedom.

Digital Organizing

JVP’s digital organizing program has grown massively over the last year, driving hundreds of thousands of calls and emails to decision-makers including university administrations, editors, and others in positions of power.

JVP organizers have also held a virtual Power Half-Hour for Gaza every weekday for the last year, providing a space for people from across the world to gather, gain political grounding, and take collective action.

Giving at a Glance

Over 85% of our annual budget comes from our members who share our vision of a world with safety and liberation for all. We don’t rely on corporations, institutions, or governments to fund our organizing. We rely on people like you to sustain our work and maintain our political independence.

This funding model allows us to be strategic and principled in our work. It means we can focus on shifting the narrative that Israel's oppression and murder of Palestinians is carried out in the name of Jewish safety and advancing a vision where Jews do not have to choose between their moral and spiritual commitments.
