The new Jewish supremacist Israeli government continues escalating state violence against Palestinians

JERICHO-UNDER-ATTACK

In a gross escalation of violence, last night the Israeli military stormed the Aqbat Jabr refugee camp outside Jericho in the occupied West Bank, killing 5 Palestinians. This follows a harrowing 5 hour raid that injured 13 more the night before, during which ambulances and medical personnel were barred from providing care to injured Palestinians. The military is now withholding their bodies from grieving families, a standard practice by the Israeli government.

This attack comes just a week after Israeli forces killed 10 Palestinians in Jenin refugee camp, and following days of blockade, closures, home demolitions, settler attacks and near-nightly military raids. Jericho itself has been under siege for over a week, after the Israeli government closed its entrances and exits.

Already in 2023 the Israeli government has killed 41 Palestinians. 2022 was already the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank since 2004, and already, one month into 2023, this year is set out-pace it.

Palestinians are demanding their foundational inalienable rights, dignity and freedom in the face of an ongoing campaign of state terror by an openly fascist and supremacist government. This is a moral and political emergency and we stand in solidarity with Palestinians leading this struggle.

Stefanie Fox, Executive Director, Jewish Voice for Peace:

“As Jews, our own histories teach us that injustice only ends when people of conscience resist. There are no sidelines as the Israeli government openly escalates its regime of domination and supremacy. The time is now to take action.”

Beth Miller, Political Director, Jewish Voice for Peace Action:

“The Israeli military’s war crimes against Palestinians are aided and abetted by the U.S. government. Each year, we send almost $4 billion to the Israeli military with zero accountability mechanisms attached or enforced. We know how this money and how these weapons are being used – to destroy families and tear apart communities. To enforce apartheid.  This has to stop.  The U.S. must end its complicity in Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.”
