Ways to Give

Estate Planning

We all hope to see equality and justice for all Palestinians and Israelis in our time. And we do much more than that – JVP members, supporters, and allies work every day, tirelessly, to make that vision real.

But we also have a responsibility to prepare for the possibility that this will remain protracted and often quite difficult justice struggle. And we have a responsibility not to underestimate what will be required to realize our vision.

Whatever challenges we face or wins we secure, your future gift ensures that JVP can continue to fight for the simple idea that all people are inherently equal.

When you include Jewish Voice for Peace in your estate plans, you are playing a personal role in guaranteeing that we can do everything we can – until it’s done.

Please note: We recommend that you consult with your legal and financial advisors to learn how a gift would work in your circumstances. Laws and regulations governing all charitable gifts vary by state and change over time.

SAMPLE BEQUEST LANGUAGE

We suggest the following language for a bequest to Jewish Voice for Peace. The tax ID# of JVP is 90-0018359.

I give to A Jewish Voice for Peace, a California nonprofit corporation that is recognized as exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, with its principal offices at P.O. Box 589, Berkeley, CA 94701 [all (or ___ percent) of my residuary estate] or [the sum of $_____ ] to be used for its general purposes.

START A MATCH

You’ve probably noticed that we raise money through matches a lot – and that means we really rely on people stepping up and challenging us to double their gifts. Obviously some of the money we raise during matches we would likely get anyway. But we don’t think there’s much question: matches are motivating and inclusive ways to help focus attention on our potential.

If you are interested – even at a “small” level – in putting your gift this year out to our donor community so we can try to match it, we’d absolutely love it. The first step is to email info@jvp.org.

PayPal Giving Fund

PayPal Giving Fund gives your charity access to our partner programs, such as eBay, PayPal, and StubHub, to help you reach more donors. There aren’t any transaction fees on the donations you receive through PayPal Giving Fund—your charity gets 100% of every donation. You’ll also get powerful reporting tools that track your donations by channel with advanced sorting features.

To donate to a charity through PayPal Giving Fund, you need a PayPal account, but you don’t need a PayPal Giving Fund account. PayPal Giving Fund accounts are only for charities.

PayPal Giving Fund does not charge donors or charities for its own services. In some cases our ecommerce partners may choose to charge fees on donations made through their platforms, which they will disclose to you.

PayPal Giving Fund collects your donations and then distributes them to charities at the end of each month. Charities can view their donation history and pending donations in their PayPal Giving Fund account.

Your tax receipt says that you made a donation to PayPal Giving Fund because we receive the money first, but we send 100% of your donation to the charity you chose.

PayPal Giving Fund is an IRS-registered 501(c)(3) charity and donations you make through our programs are tax deductible.

Ebay for Charity

In order to sell items on eBay and automatically have 100% of the proceeds benefit your organization, receive the reduced PayPal charity rate of 2.2% and to have immediate access to your fund, you need to affiliate a valid eBay user ID with your charity now.

Integrated into eBay’s regular buying and selling platform, eBay for Charity makes it easy for people to support important causes, both in the U.S. and abroad. It enables sellers to donate a portion of their sales and buyers to shop while supporting their favorite charities — all the while giving nonprofits an opportunity to engage new supporters.

At eBay, we think it’s a whole lot easier to do good in the world when you have someone to help you out. We’ve teamed up with PayPal Giving Fund, to certify nonprofits for participation in eBay for Charity and process the millions of dollars in donations given every year through the program.

Any nonprofit that wishes to be part of eBay for Charity is screened by PayPal Giving Fund. The screening process includes:

  • Reviewing each nonprofit’s mission statement to confirm that they do not promote hate, violence or illegal activity
  • Checking all nonprofits against an international database to confirm they are not connected to any terrorist groups
  • Verifying that organizations who apply are, and remain, in good standing with the IRS (any nonprofits that lose their tax-deductible status are removed from the eBay for Charity program).

Launched immediately after 9/11 as “Auction for America,” eBay’s giving program originally raised over $10 million through online charity auctions for organizations supporting the victims of the tragedy and their families. At the time, New York Governor George Pataki and NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani made a personal appeal to eBay to help local nonprofits handle the flood of donations coming in from across the country.

eBay’s team got to work building a fundraising program that could unleash the widespread generosity of its broad online community. The company soon partnered with MissionFish, which later became the PayPal Giving Fund. To this day, the organization provides vital services and support that make it easy for members of the eBay community to give to their favorite nonprofit through the eBay for Charity program.

In 2005, eBay for Charity – previously known as Giving Works – introduced its free donation policy as part of its efforts to raise money for the South Asian Tsunami relief. This was later replaced by its free credit policy in 2006, the same year that PayPal was introduced as an option to make donation payments.

The eBay for Charity program is part of a portfolio of programs, resources, and tools across eBay Inc that are intended to enable and inspire charitable giving at a scale never seen before. We believe that across eBay Inc, we have the potential to be the leading platform for charitable giving around the world. For more information on our broader efforts across eBay Inc, please visit ebayinc.com/social-innovation.

Thanks to operating support from PayPal, 100% of every donation processed by PayPal Giving Fund reaches the donor’s chosen nonprofit organization. And because PayPal Giving Fund is a nonprofit itself, 100% of your donation amount is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

BUT I’M NOT JEWISH

Like all Jewish communities, JVP is diverse. Furthermore, we are exceptionally honored by the support of those outside of our community, particularly Palestinian, Muslim, and/or Arab partners who lend their support to our critical projects.
