Prevent regional war: arms embargo and permanent ceasefire now.
JVP denounces the recent escalations of the Israeli government, which are designed to thwart ceasefire efforts in Gaza and have once again brought the Middle East to the brink of a regional war. The Biden administration must take concrete action now to immediately de-escalate, including implementing an arms embargo on weapons to Israel and pressuring the Israeli government to agree to a permanent ceasefire deal.
The Netanyahu regime is attempting to prolong its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, and Prime Minister Netanyahu is also working to salvage his own political career, by provoking a regional war. The only way to prevent this is to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza now.
Palestinian families in Gaza have faced non-stop devastation for ten months. The Israeli government, with the full backing of the United States government, has carried out a genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, destroying every aspect of life. Palestinians in Gaza are now suffering from famine and a Polio epidemic. The Israeli government has targeted schools, hospitals, water and electricity grids, farmland, refugee camps, mosques, and churches. The Israeli military has killed over 40,000 Palestinians, including at least 15,000 children.
The Biden administration and U.S. Congress have been complicit in the Israeli government’s genocide, and the devastation could now spiral into a full-blown regional war. We call on the Biden administration to bring its full leverage toward pressuring the Israeli government to agree to a permanent ceasefire, and enacting an arms embargo now.
