JVP Statement following Senate confirmation hearing for David Friedman as ambassador to Israel

Following today’s Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation hearing for David Friedman as U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Jewish Voice for Peace offers the following statement from Executive Director Rebecca Vilkomerson:

“Today’s hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the nomination of David Friedman to be the next US Ambassador to Israel was, as Senator Menendez suggested, an attempt at ‘nomination conversion.’ Regardless of today’s farcical performance, Friedman’s record speaks for itself. He is a longtime fundraiser for illegal Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land, with a history of demonizing Palestinians, Muslims, and American Jews who disagree with his views. All evidence of his political positions and life’s work until today indicate that he will continue to align himself with the extremist Israeli right and further enable Israel’s occupation, its displacement of Palestinians, and its nearly half-century-old apartheid regime.”

Jewish Voice for Peace will continue to mobilize our members and supporters to urge their senators to oppose Friedman’s confirmation.
