This student-led campaign called on eligible Jewish youth to boycott Birthright’s free trips to Israel.
The campaign was spearheaded by JVP student leaders who shifted the narrative, demonstrating that it is fundamentally unjust for students to take a free trip to Israel, while Israel prevents millions of Palestinian refugees from returning – and in many cases even visiting – their homes.
The #ReturnTheBirthright campaign escalated with multiple actions on campuses and at the Birthright Israel headquarters in NYC.
As of 2023, enrollment of US Jewish students in Birthright is down 40%.
