JVP sends condolences to the Muslim community in Quebec

Jewish Voice for Peace is horrified by the murders that took place last night in Quebec City, where a gunman entered a mosque, killed at least six worshippers, and left several others in critical condition.

Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those injured and killed—and to Muslims throughout Canada, the United States, and elsewhere who are subject to pervasive Islamophobia and racism.

Muslim and other communities are organizing across the U.S. and beyond to protect the rights and safety of Muslim and other impacted communities.  It is more urgent than ever that we stand together with all communities against Islamophobia on the streets, in mosques, and from our state institutions and government, including from the anti-Muslim ideologues who shape White House policies at the highest levels. The recent Executive Orders are only the latest affront to all concerned with the most basic human rights.

Jewish Voice for Peace sends our deepest condolences to the Muslim community in Quebec City and commit ourselves  to doing all we can, as partners for justice, to ensure that Muslims–as well as members of other targeted communities–are able to live in safety and with full dignity.
