Stop the bulldozers!  Save the village of Al Aqabah!

Children of Al Aqabah with their Pinwheels of Peace

At our October 2008 meeting, JVP Bay Area was privileged to meet and hear from Haj Sami Sadik Sbaih,
the mayor of Al Aqabah village in the West Bank, and members of the Rebuilding Alliance, who are fighting with him to save the village from demolition by the Israeli occupying authority.

The kindergarten in the village of Al Aqabah, in the Jordan River Valley, is scheduled to be demolished, along with the village mosque, the medical center, and almost all the village's homes.  The village is threatened by the Israeli occupying authority's tactic of denying almost every Palestinian building permit application, while at the same time granting thousands of permits to Jewish settlements in the same areas.

The threat to Al Aqabah continues.  More info about the campaign to save the village can be found here, including info on calling US congresspeople and others who can put pressure on the Israelis to recognize the right of the people of Al Aqabah, and all Palestinians, to build on their own land. They need to hear from us!
