Vigils at Water Tower Place Join JVP-Chicago members and other Chicago area supporters to stand each Sunday with signs against the Occupation. =========*========= Sunday, January 20, 4:00-6:00pm Tu B'Shvat Seder: Trees of Reconciliation Epiphany United Church of Christ 2008 W. Bradley Place (at Damen, 2 blocks North of Addison) Admission: $5.00 donation (cash or checks made out to JVP-Chicago only) Tu b'shevat is a Jewish holiday in celebration of fruiting trees and the "Birthday of the Trees." The Tu b'shvat Seder will kick off the national Jewish Voice for Peace campaign to purchase 3,000 olive saplings for planting in the Occupied West Bank to support the efforts of Palestinian farmers to rebuild their economy. Since Sept. 2000, the uprooting of more than 700,000 olive trees by the Israeli Army to make way for settlements and the Wall has wreaked incalculable damage on the only source of livelihood for thousands of Palestinian families. Working for peace and justice in Israel and Palestine, JPV joins the Jewish tradition of remaking tradition by observing Tu B'Shevat as a festival of healing and reconciliation. It is an opportunity to re-examine the history of Israel-Palestine and to build awareness about alternative paths to peace, and options for creating equal rights and social justice in the area.
