The Health and Human Rights Project (HaHRP), a project of American Jews for a Just Peace (AJJP), announces its next delegation to Israel/Palestine, and they encourage all who are interested to apply! The application deadline is Friday, October 16, 2009.  Acceptance is on a rolling basis.  If you have missed the October 16 deadline, please write anyway – they may still have spaces left.

Questions? Please write to healthandhumanrights@gmail.com

Here's additional info they've provided:

Who:
Approximately 15 people interested in traveling, meeting, and in some cases working in Palestine for 2 weeks and in bringing their experiences home to work for justice in their own communities.

What: A 2-week trip organized with Hannah Mermelstein and Lubna Alzaroo, during which we will meet with Palestinian community leaders, activists, doctors, lawyers, farmers, families and more.  We will be traveling in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and inside Israel, deepening our understanding of Israeli apartheid in all of these areas through meetings with Palestinian and Israeli people.  While we are unable to travel in Gaza as a group, we will attempt to have contact with friends there through video conference.
The delegation will divide into two tracks.  In addition to meetings, the health and mental health track will have the opportunity to work with health care providers in different settings for a few days at a time.  The human rights and activism track will consist of meetings together as a large group and customized to participants’ individual interests and expertise.

When: January 2-16, 2010 (includes travel time).  We have planned this delegation to follow a mass mobilization on January 1, 2010 to end the siege of Gaza.  Some of us will be participating in this action.  For more, see http://gazafreedommarch.org

Why: We started the project 7 years ago, organizing yearly delegations to lend our support and expertise in the medical field, document facts on the ground, and work in coalition with Physicians for Human Rights-Israel and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.  Over the years we have broadened our scope to include meeting and working with Palestinian and Israeli human rights activists and participating in international solidarity work with Palestinian people and organizations.  We have been asked to join in Palestinian-led nonviolent resistance on the ground; to witness daily life under occupation and share our experiences with our own communities; to participate in the growing global movement for boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel; and to amplify Palestinian voices in the West, where they have historically been silenced. We hope to develop relationships with people on the ground, and in so doing, to strengthen our work in our own communities.

Application: Please write to healthandhumanrights@gmail.com to request an application.  The application deadline is Friday, October 16, 2009.  Acceptance is on a rolling basis.  If you have missed the October 16 deadline, please write anyway – we may still have spaces left.

Costs:

-Accepted participants will pay a $300 non-refundable registration fee by December 1, 2009.  This fee will go towards funding the trip organizers and materials.

-Plan on approximately $100 per day for your time in Israel/Palestine.

-You are responsible for your own airfare, which generally ranges from $900-$1,300 in the winter, depending on where you are traveling from and when. Delegation members are encouraged to fundraise before and after their trip, both for their own expenses if needed, and to help fund HaHRP.
We look forward to hearing from you!
